The sun is a planet or a star? Stars differ from planets on a number of signs, such as size, weight, chemical composition, temperature and brightness and many other. On all these signs our luminary unambiguously belongs to stars, and belongs to the class of yellow stars.

In fact, despite such an important role in our lives, the Sun is just a common, ordinary star. It belongs to the class of yellow dwarfs - not very hot stars of a rather modest size. Such stars are millions in our Galaxy only, and we live around one of them.

According to scientists, the birth of the Sun has occurred about 4.6 billion years ago. It, like most stars, was formed from a gas nebula. Shrinking and gaining weight, the centre has reached this density and temperature, which allowed nuclear fusion – turning hydrogen into helium, giving the space a huge amount of light and heat.
